-다시피 하다

Almost, practically, nearly.

Explanation

This expression is used to indicate that some action is actually very close to another action but is not exactly the same.

As such, it emphasizes the degree of the actual situation being described by exaggeration.

Details

1. When this expression is used in a passive sense, the form -다시피 하고 있다 is used in place of -다시피 한다 to indicate a present situation.

갑자기 내린 폭설로 이 부근 도로는 마비되다시피 한다.
얼마 전에 난 산불로 인해 요즘 그 지역에는 관광객들의 발걸음이 끊기다시피 한다.

2. When -다시피 is used by itself, it indicates the confirmation of some fact that the listener is already aware of. In this case, -다시피 can be replaced with -듯이.
