This expression is used to indicate that under the current circumstances, it is easy for something to happen or that its occurrence is very probable. Here, the word 십상 has the same meaning as 십중팔구 (“eight or nine out of ten”). This expression only attaches to verbs.
This expression is usually used when a negative result or situation is expected, therefore it sounds awkward when used to describe positive situations.
